What this page covers
This page is about the email address and postcode you give us if you join the list, and about what happens when you look up a registration. Those are the only personal information this site collects.
When you look up a registration
Your registration is turned into a scrambled code before anything is written down, and it is the code that is stored rather than the registration. That means the record of your lookup cannot be turned back into your number plate by us or by anyone who took a copy of it.
What is kept from a lookup, and for how long
The MOT history that came back is kept alongside that code for 24 hours, so that reloading the page still works and looking the same car up twice does not ask for it twice. After 24 hours it is deleted. Your registration is never in the web address you end up on, never in what is stored, and never written to our logs.
If you ask to be reminded
A reminder is a separate thing you choose, and it is the only part of a lookup that is kept for longer than a day. What is stored is the same scrambled code, the date your MOT runs out, and where to send a notification to this browser — not your registration, and nothing about your car. It is deleted on its own 30 days after that MOT date, and you can remove it from the result page at any time.
Why your registration still appears on the result
Your own browser keeps it for the tab you are using, so the page can show it back to you and you can check the car is yours. It stays on your device, it is not sent to us, and closing the tab is the end of it.
What we do with it
We email you once, when you can start using Fobbed. We use your postcode to know which part of the country to open to first. That is all either of them is for.
What we never do with it
We do not sell it, rent it, or pass it to anyone else for their own marketing. You will not receive a newsletter you did not ask for.
How long we keep it
Until you ask us to remove it, or until it is clear the list is no longer needed — whichever comes first.
Measuring how the site is used
If you accept, we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people read. Nothing is loaded and nothing is recorded until you accept. Decline and the site works exactly the same.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and we will do it. If you are not happy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
One honest limit on that
Because a lookup is stored against a scrambled code rather than your registration, there is no way for us to find your lookups and hand them to you — the same thing that stops anyone else doing it stops us. They delete themselves within 24 hours, which is the shortest answer we can give you and the reason it is built this way.

Fobbed is a trading name of OrderRing Ltd, company 17401172, registered at 20 Wenlock Road, London N1 7GU. That is the company responsible for what you give us, and the one to write to if you want a copy of it or want it deleted.
